Responsabilities

As a Producer, I...
-
Developed the work plan for the future launch and structured the Kickstarter campaign, setting clear objectives and strategies to maximize the game's visibility and financial support.
-
Built and structured the landing page on itch.io and Wix, including potential rewards based on donations.

As a Game Designer, I...
-
Created the guard surveillance mechanic, adding a challenging element that enriched gameplay and increased player tension.
-
Developed the banana-throwing defense mechanic, introducing a fun and creative strategy that allowed players to defend themselves from the guards and maintain the game's pace.
As a UI & UX Designer, I...
-
Designed the visual identity of the video game and graphic assets, establishing a consistent aesthetic that enhanced the project's presentation and visual appeal.
-
Created the HUD elements and buttons for all menus in pixel art style, ensuring an attractive and functional user experience that aligned with the game's overall aesthetic.
As a Pixel Artist, I...
-
Redesigned the character Lagoo in pixel art style using Aseprite, prioritizing adding more personality and making him stand out from the other monkeys.
-
Designed the security guards, obstacles (gears and doors), and collectible bananas.
-
Created the backgrounds, platforms, and decorative elements for the game.
Creation Process
-
The project was revisited as part of the "Video Game Prototyping Workshop" course at the University of Lima.
-
The narrative focused on telling the story of Lagoo, a small yellow-tailed woolly monkey, an endangered species in Peru.
-
Combining platforming with stealth gameplay required the inclusion of a defense mechanic, such as throwing bananas, to navigate the level.
-
I was responsible for the overall redesign of the look and feel, aiming for a pixel art aesthetic.
-
By standardizing the style, the UI elements became more cohesive within the game world (as they were initially designed with a pixel art aesthetic).

Promotional Material
-
As part of the website design, I created graphic assets and posters for the video game.
-
I had the opportunity to experiment with a key visual and adapt it to various formats.
What I learned...

First Approach to Unity
This project marked my first experience implementing assets and basic programming in Unity. It allowed me to become familiar with the interface and create simple mechanics, laying a solid foundation for future developments on this platform.
Think About How to Sell It
Creating a game is not limited to development; finding a synergy between creativity and commercial viability is essential. I learned to design a sales strategy that connected the project's artistic vision with its market potential, ensuring the game was not only appealing but also competitive and feasible.
Transforming a Style
Originally, the project assets had a vectorized style, but the decision was made to switch to pixel art. This required me to master this technique, use Aseprite, and create spritesheets for implementation as animations in Unity.
Promotion Is Important
Promotion goes beyond a marketing strategy; it starts with graphic assets and cover art. I learned that capturing the player's attention at first glance is crucial. I worked on creating a visual identity that was not only attractive but also sparked interest and created an immediate connection with the audience.
Showcase
As part of the course deliverables, we held a showcase where university students could try the game and provide feedback.
Following this experience, we iterated on the project and gave a final presentation in the classroom.
